The Landsborough Highway remains closed north of McKinlay after a single-vehicle truck rollover yesterday morning.
A four-trailer truck overturned on the highway yesterday morning with zinc spilling onto the road from the last two trailers.
Mount Isa inspector Trevor Kidd said the site was remote making clean-up difficult and he said police from Cloncurry, and other emergency services were assisted by volunteers from South32 Cannington mine on the scene.
Inspector Kidd said they hoped to re-open the road sometime later this morning.
The 51-year-old truck driver was airlifted to Mount Isa hospital for treatment.
