While the south-east coast of Australia is experiencing an extreme heatwave, North Queensland is not expected to reach higher temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that North Queensland will only experience low-intensity heatwave and it should decrease by Saturday (January 14).
Meterologist, Mario Torrisi, said North Queensland would only experience higher overnight temperatures.
“The conditions expected for North Queensland is not what we would class as heatwave conditions,” Mr Tottisi said.
“People in this area will experience above average humid night conditions, but temperatures throughout the day should remain the same.”
Although the region missed the heatwave it hasn’t stopped locals from cooling down.
The outlook for the rest of the week shows scattered across the region with Normanton, Burketown, Cooktown and Charters Towers experiencing heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Cloncurry, Hughenden and Townsville will see scattered showers and a possible storm at the end of the week. Temperatures around the region should remain in the mid-thirties.
