The North Queensland Register has welcomed Samantha Walton to the editorial team this week.
22-year-old Ms Walton, who holds a Bachelor of Communications from Charles Sturt University, joins the NQR team after spending a year working at Fairfax Media’s Mount Isa paper, the North West Star.
Based in Cloncurry, Ms Walton will work with fellow journalists, Lea Coghlan (Atherton Tablelands) and Sally Cripps (Blackall) in writing for NQR’s print and digital publications.
Former Register journalist, Matt Sherrington, is now a features and special publications writer with Fairfax Media, based in Townsville.
NQR editor, Penelope Arthur, said Samantha would be a welcome edition to the NQR newsroom.
“Samantha has already shown that she has the makings of a great rural journalist so we are thrilled that she has decided to come and work with us,” she said.
“She is ready to be on the road a lot, traveling through Reggie heartland along the Flinders Highway and east to the coast.”
Ms Walton said she looked forward to addressing rural issues in North QLD.
