THIS Saturday will see a beautiful collection of artwork go under the hammer at the Enoggera Bowls Club, all in the name of charity.
The brainchild of Alison Ray, Our Rainbow House charity, Emerald, the Hands Up for Our Rainbow House charity lunch and auction will not be one to miss.
Our Rainbow House is a non-profit charity organisation based in Emerald, and works hard towards making a sustainable difference at the Our Rainbow House School, which is in a small village just outside Lusaka, Zambia.
Ms Ray said the auction is the third they have held in three years, and said the money raised from the 19 paintings on offer will go straight to running the school.
She said there are not words to explain how important the school is to the community.
“It’s absolutely incredibly vital, we’re educating 50 children, but there are 7800 orphans and vulbernable children on five hectares, and we’ve only got 50 of them,” she said.
“There are 53176 people who live in that village on five hectares.”
Our Rainbow House began in 2009.
For Pam Quinn, the Our Rainbow House charity is more than just a hobby – it’s a passion.
Ms Quinn, formerly of Emerald, is convening the charity’s art auction to be held on Saturday, and she said with more than $20,000 of artwork on offer it is sure to impress.
“This is the third time Our Rainbow House has staged an art auction as a fundraiser, the last two were in Rockhampton and Yeppoon, and we decided people in South East Queensland may like to support our charity, so we’re doing it in Brisbane this year,” Ms Quinn said.
The art has come from various areas across Australia, and from some really well known Australian artists.

With the event kicking off at 11.30am and the auction to be held after lunch, she said the art had something to offer everyone.
“The art has come from various areas across Australia, and from some really well known Australian artists - we’ve got oils, pastels, acrylics and the rest – something for everyone,” she said.
“I think people will come along and all have an opportunity to make a purchase if they wish.”
With 19 paintings on offer during the auction, Ms Quinn said there would be ample opportunity to go home with plenty of other craft items.
“We’ve got a pop up shop as well and have other pieces of art, handmade jewellery, handmade cushions, and just an interesting array of arts and crafts,” she said.
Food and wine are included in price tag of $120 per person.
Ms Quinn said a raffle would be held, with about 20 prizes on offer.
“Probably the biggest prize is a four-day mid week stay at a farm house in the Byron Bay Hinterland, it sleeps up to 10 people,” she said.
“I think that people are going to have a good time… it will be a ripper of an event.
“We’ve got great food, great music and it’s going to be fantastic.”
