There was a decrease in numbers with 1580 cattle penned at Emerald on October 27.
The quality was much better than last sale and prices for vealer steers improved while some of the light heifers maintained recent rates most other descriptions were a little easier, following the trend of other markets during the week.
A large local line up of cattle was supplemented by lines of quality vealer steers from the Jericho district. All the regular buyers were present and operating.
The yarding was highlighted by several larger drafts of good quality weaner steers, which went against the trend to sell to strong competition and post gains of up to 20c on last sales rates.
The slaughter section, heavier store steers and heifers all lost ground for most categories to be 10-12c cheaper.
Bullocks over 550kg sold to an isolated 313c for a 288c average, showing little change on last week, steers 500-550kg also peaked at 313c to average 277c.
Steers 400-500kg lost 10c on last sale to top of 334c and average 321c, 320-400kg steers reached 375c for an improved 348c average, while steers in the weaner weight ranges made as much as 414c to average close to 380c.
Heavy cows lost 12c for a top of 241c for a 230c average, while 400-520kg cows reached 236c for a 216c average.
Heavy heifers over 400kg made as much as 291c to average 276c, 300-400kg heifers sold to 338c to be around 10c cheaper for a 298c average.
Meanwhile heifers in the weaner weights ranges peaked at 376c to average close to 330c.

The Jeppesen family, Olivevale, Comet offered 615kg Charolais bullocks to 313.2c and $1926, while the Prince family, Janibee, Capella had their 481kg feeder steers reach 333c and $1603.
The Prince family, Melaleuca, Capella offered 479kg feeder steers to 331c and $1588, while the Powell family, Warrigal, Mt Coolon had their 410kg Droughtmaster cross steers to 329c and $1349.
Ken and Evelyn O’Brien, Myrtle Park, Comet had their 570kg Santa cows to 238c and $1359, while James Keleher, Jalee, Blackwater had 277kg Euro cross weaner steers to 380c and $1054.
Will and Ingrid Haviland offered 280kg Droughtmaster weaner steers to 388c and $1086, while Alan and Denise Esmond, Lucknow, Capella had 282kg Santa cross heifers sold to 348c and $982.
