Mother Nature has turned it on for the start of spring with many in central and western Queensland hailing the current wildflower show as one of the best in years.
Travellers have been awestruck by the beauty of the flowers with previously drought stricken country springing back to life after good winter rain.
Barcaldine Shire Council Mayor, Rob Chandler, said there had been “very few years in history” where the region had received such good rain through June, July and August, which created perfect conditions for native pastures.
“The flowers are only just starting but all the visitors are talking about how spectacular they look and anyone heading out to the Birdsville Races this weekend will be in for a real treat,” he said.
Cr Chandler said forecast rain on Thursday and Friday could provide the “icing on the cake” for landholders.
“Early general storms now to get the Flinders and the Mitchell grasses going would be fabulous,” he said.
