A yarding of 3204 head of cattle came to hand at Gracemere sale on August 26 comprising 1298 steers, 771 cows, 1016 heifers, 13 cows and calves and 106 bulls.
The market for prime cattle was firm while breeder cows sold to strong competition. The feeder market also stayed firm while weaners were once again very strong.
Slaughter weight steers topped 362c/kg to average 303c, steers 400-500kg topped 354c/kg to average 328c, steers 300-400kg hit 370c and averaged 334c, lighter weight steers in the 200-300kg range cracked 400c to average 365c and those under 200kg made 410c to average 389c.
Heavy heifers hit 458c to average 330c, heifers 300-400kg made 408c to average 321c, 200-300kg topped 358c to average 322c and those under 200kg made 342c to average 321c.

Cash Family, St. Lawrence, sold Brahman weaner steers to top at 404c weighing 189kg to return $764 per head.
McCartney Family, Marlborough, sold Brangus heifers to top at 362c weighing 363kg to return $1315.
Racesea Pty Ltd, Sarina, sold Brahman weaner heifers to top at 342c weighing 235kg to return $803.
Farr Family, Lyndon, Kunwarara, sold a quality line of Grey Brahman PTIC cows for $1600.
Rob and Una Oates, Comet, sold Brahman cows to top at 257c weighing 617kg to return $1588.
