A roadshow of scientists will stop off in Atherton later this week as part of National Science Week.
The Science in the Pub event will be held at the Barron Valley Hotel on Thursday (18 August) from 7pm.
It is being delivered by Startup Tablelands and the University of Queensland (UQ), with assistance from the Commonwealth Department of Industry and Science.
With science a key principle to startup and innovation, the night will involve learning the basics of science in fun and informative session. It will look at current research and the implications it has for rural innovation.
The event is free for members of Startup Tablelands or $10 for non-members.
Dr Jacki Liddle, postdoctoral research fellow and occupational therapist, is part of the UQ team which will host the event. Joining her will be Emily Furlong and Kaylene Butler.
“As someone who is using technology to research health outcomes in people's own homes and communities (rather than clinics and hospitals), I am keen to connect with a really innovative community in the Tablelands region,” Dr Liddle said.
“I think people in rural and regional areas are a key part of developing innovative approaches to promoting health and wellbeing - and also to helping us understand health more fully.”
