The future will arrive in Cairns on October 28-30 when farmers, agricultural advisors, researchers and educators converge at the National Biological Farming Conference and Expo: Pay Dirt being held at the Cairns Convention Centre.
Increasing demand for clean food and increased environmental accountability are key drivers towards minimising chemical use in food production which will be explored at the event.
Declining agricultural yields due to depleted soils and increased costs of chemical inputs have forced some farmers such as North Dakota’s Gabe Brown to rethink the way they farm.
Mr Brown has found that farming “in nature’s image” pays dividends.
Cash crops, multi-species cover crops, and all-natural, grass-fed livestock have regenerated the natural resources on his North Dakota-based operation, in a no-till system and without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides.
He will speak at the conference about using simple strategies to change soil condition in a five-step process.
Bayer CropScience’s Director of Global Agronomic Development, Denise Manker, will explain the potential that biologics (naturally occurring products derived from materials such as plants, bacteria and minerals) have to turn large-scale farmers off chemicals.
Close to 50 farmers, agronomists and researchers will present to about 500 farmers and graziers from around Australia representing the gamut of our agricultural industry during the event.
