The great Mareeba Rodeo was dubbed a success, with organisers saying it will go down as one of the best.
Hundreds lined the main street of Mareeba on Friday night to watch the procession before university student Sarah Bensted was crowned Mareeba Rodeo Queen, Tegan Smith the Rodeo Princess and Miss Popularity Angel Pulverenti.
The action in the rodeo arena was fast and furious with Walcha cowboy Carl Green, a former national champion, taking out the champion cowboy title after winning the open saddle event and placing second in the open bull ride, and Nicole Lyon named champion cowgirl after placing second in the ladies steer undecorating and third in ladies breakaway roping.
In the juniors, Charlie Limpus was champion cowgirl and Will Murdoch, the champion cowboy.
Darryl Chong won the clown competition.
Queensland triumphed in the State of Origin series.
The event was a swansong for president Jim Blakeney who is hanging up the hat after 32 years at the helm of the organisation.
