For the third year running the Scott family of Valley Vista and Valley Vista Park studs, Coolac, have won the supreme Poll Dorset exhibit at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Bendigo.
The June 2015 drop Valley Vista ewe won her woolly class before being sashed champion ewe and eventually supreme exhibit.
Tatykeel’s champion Poll Dorset ram was the ewe’s competitor, but judge Ian Gilmore, Baringa stud, Oberon, said she was an outstanding, strong ewe that had wonderful presence that commanded the mat on the day.
“She has wonderful presence, and stood up with an outstanding twist in the hind leg, had wonderful muscling right through whilst still maintaining femininity.”
Mr Scott said his daughter, Sally, said the ewe had to be called ‘Serena’ if she won, being a true champion.
Serena, from a Valley Vista bred ram, is one of the better ewes bred at Valley Vista, said Mr Scott.
“It’s like winning a grand final, you put a lot of time in to it, so when you are rewarded like this it’s overwhelming in a lot of ways.”
The Scott’s plan to take their supreme ewe to the upcoming Australasian Dorset Championships, Bendigo in September.
