New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra is moving its global brands and nutrition boss, René Dedoncker, to be managing director of Fonterra Australia.
Mr Dedoncker, who began his career with Fonterra in Australia in the foodservice business in 2005, will be responsible for bringing the local business back to profitability after a tough two years for the NZ co-operative her and overseas markets.
His appointment follows the recent promotion of Australian-based Judith Swales, to chief operating officer for velocity and innovation in the parent company.
Ms Swales previously held the Australian managing director’s job, then last year became head of Fonterra Oceania.
In her new COO’s role, the Australian business continues to report through to her.
She said Mr Dedoncker succession was the right choice for the Australian business.
“René has been with the co-operative for 10 years and is well-known for his strategic agility and leadership style, having led our foodservice business, where he transformed the it into a successful, global model.
Mr Dedoncker has more than 20 years’ experience in dairy and fast moving consumer goods markets, having held domestic and global roles at Fonterra and Mars Corporation.
Most recently he was acting managing director of global brands and nutrition.
“Our Australian business has made great progress on its turnaround,” Ms Swales noted when making the announcement.
“We’ve got the right strategy and with the support of a strong and experienced leadership team, René will continue to deliver on the strategic plan that will see the business return to profit.
Mr Dedoncker commences his new role this week, based in Fonterra’s Australian head office, in Melbourne.
