A group of agricultural students will host a dinner in Mareeba on Saturday to showcase local produce and farming stories.
The Gulf Youth in Ag team was established under the umbrella of the Northern Gulf Resource Management Group to engage youth interested in careers in sustainable agriculture.
It received a ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grant from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) to host a Boots for Change Dinner to showcase local produce.
Group member Ellie Hughes said the dinner was created by the group to raise awareness for fresh, healthy, local produce.
Guest speaker Paul West from River Cottage Australia will work with Leeandra Norman, Love Lee Cooking, to prepare the dishes for the three-course meal.
It will feature produce from more than a dozen Tableland producers including Sunnyville Free Range Pork, Gallos Dairy, Adfresh, Blue Sky Produce, Mungalli Dairy, Skybury and Jacques Coffee.
The youth team is producing a video to showcase the farmers and the sustainable agriculture techniques being used on-farm.
The team hopes to see a combination of producers, food lovers, chefs, politicians and media at the event to give local farmers, their stories and their produce as much exposure as possible.
The dinner will be held at Blue Sky Produce at Mareeba.
