The one year anniversary of the Ravenshoe café explosion will be marked on 9 June with a special service.
The event will be held for the wider community to reflect on the significance of the tragedy and to acknowledge the generosity, kindness and support provided from across the region, and beyond.
Two people died and 20 were injured when an out-of-control ute ploughed into the side of the Serves You Right cafe in Grigg Street, Ravenshoe, causing a gas bottle to explode.
Tablelands Regional Council Mayor Joe Paronella said the event was an opportunity to come together to reflect and recognise the strengths and resilience of those affected, and thank those who have supported the healing journey during the last 12 months.
“With a staggering $839,254.52 raised through the official GIVIT Ravenshoe Café Explosion Appeal Fund and overwhelming acts of kindness demonstrated by the community throughout the response and recovery period, it is important to recognise the unprecedented level of support that has been provided to Ravenshoe,” Cr Paronella said.
“Everyone is welcome to attend the event which will commence at 5.30 pm at Festival Hall in Grigg Street, Ravenshoe.”
Supper will be provided.
