Hundreds of people came to the West End Park for Townsville’s T150 Heritage Day held on Sunday.
Townsville mayor Jenny Hill officially opened the 2016 Heritage Day, and commented on what an exciting time it would be for visitors.
“The day provides a great opportunity for locals and out-of-towners to learn about the city’s rich history,” Cr Hill said.
“The day holds special significance this year for Townsville residents who are celebrating the city’s 150 year anniversary since foundation,” she said.
As well as inspecting the exhibits chronicling life in Townsville through the decades, visitors could tour the historic West End Cemetery, go for a ride on a vintage chevy bus and take in the live entertainment.
One of the big drawcards of the day was the continuation of the 'Townsville Yarns' series that’s taking place through the year that delves deep into the city’s history and heritage as told by local and visiting identities.
