United Petroleum Pty Ltd is set to lease land at Roma Saleyards to build and operate a vehicle re-fueling station and roadhouse.
At completion, the development will position the Roma Saleyards as a transport hub servicing the livestock and heavy transport industry along with travelling motorists.
Construction is expected to conclude in 2017 with the facility to provide not only fuel but a shower, meals and space to stop overnight.
Maranoa Regional Council is making provision for a hard stand parking area to meet the needs of heavy vehicle operators to find a safe overnight park close to amenities in Roma.
A council spokesperson said the truck stop would be of great value to the area.
“Although Roma is already serviced by excellent fuel providers, the ability to provide enough hard stand parking space for heavy trucks out of town with rest and recreation facilities as well is a real win for travelers.”
With the deal forecast to return a long term revenue stream for the ratepayers as well as enhance Roma Saleyards’ status as a transport and economic hub, the new truck stop and roadhouse will be yet another step forward for Roma as the epicentre of the Maranoa.
