BRISBANE Valley cattle producer Bruce Harvey was as pleased as punch with prices at Shepherdson and Boyd’s fortnightly Toogoolawah sale today with his Charolais/Brahman-cross bullocks hitting $1460/head.
Mr Harvey said the cattle were the lighter weight steers off a draft that were sent to JBS at Dinmore last week.
Good judges at today’s sale estimated the heavy steers offered at today’s sale generally sold for the equivalent of 330-340c/kg live.
“I’m really happy with the prices,” Mr Harvey said. “Let’s hope it stays there.”
The cattle were bred on Sleepy Hollow at Mount Beppo and growth out an agistment paddock in the district.
Dick Boyd from Shepherdson and Boyd said the past fortnight’s rain had again kickstarted the market.
“There was very good rain before before Christmas and after the New Year but that heat in the middle of January really did knock the country around,” Mr Boyd said.
“This two or three inches of rain that has fallen in the past fortnight has really put a lot more optimism back into market.
“People are chasing cattle because they have grass and can see the opportunity to make a profit even at these higher prices.”
Some 780 head were yarded at today’s Toogoolawah sale. The next sale will be held on February 19.
