AN historic week-long cattle drive is being planned for the Eidsvold district in April.
To be led by boss drovers and Eidsvold identities Ron Bligh and Ned Neumann, the Eidsvold Historic Charity Drive will start on April 3 at Glencoe.
With cattle drawn from Mooroocooba the drive will head in comfortable stages Tireen, Tandora, Euroka and Eidsvold Station before ending at the Eidsvold Showgrounds and the R.M.Williams Bush Learning Centre on April 9.
Organiser Dot Hamilton said the objectives of the drove included providing the district’s youth as well as other interested people with the opportunity to participating in a cattle drive based on an historical working activity dating back to the early 1930s.
“The committee plan to have families and friends join us at the R.M.Williams Bush Learning Centre,” Mrs Hamilton said.
“We are extending a warm welcome to all people connected with the cattle industry from 1933 to now.
“We’d particularly like to see cattle producers, agents, employees, drovers and all who spent time here in the Eidsvold district come to what should be a great event.
“There are so many people with connections to Eidsvold and it will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together. Upon completion of the drive on April 9 there will be an enjoyable afternoon and evening of country food, entertainment and friendship for all ages, starting in the afternoon.”
The committee is offering packages for people to participate on the drove. Details are available on Eidsvold Charity Cattle Drive Facebook page: www.facebook.com/EidsvoldCharityCattleDrive. A one day package is $255 for an adult, $735 for three days or $1320 for six days. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is the main charity.
A large display of photos, stories and memorabilia of cattle owners and personalities, agents and horsemen of by-gone days, will be on show in the R.M.Williams Bush Learning Centre.
