THE former Burdekin Agricultural College Campus and Farm was sold for a sum of $5 million during an auction hosted by Ray White Rural at Townsville Jupiters Casino.
The former college located approximately 40km from Ayr and 85km south of Townsville was purchased by a silent bidder who will now decide what to do with the property which includes 2598ha (6420ac) of freehold land of which 107ha is cultivated.
Also included in the purchase is the fully operational campus with 22 houses including duplexes, dormitory accommodation for approximately 150 people, conference facilities, sporting facilities, lecture theater, 3.5 sheds suitable for machinery, 3.5 shed suitable for workshops, one packing shed, various equine stables and shed, various storage, feed and general sheds and a water and sewerage treatment plant.
UPDATE: Mr Currie later said that the other property up for auction on the day, 'The Cane Farm' which is also part of the Burdekin Agricultural College sold an hour after the sale for $7 million.
The 773ha (1909ac) farm was purchased by top-bidders the Galea family after the property was passed in during the auction.
Improvements to the house include a solid high set three bedroom house, tractor shed and workshop with a harvester shed, and a large wash down area with pressurized bore water.
The farm is well laid out, lasered and drained.
Ray White Rural Townsville Principal Kevin Currie said that the Government agencies involved in the selling of the two pieces of land and infrastructure were very pleased with the 100 per cent clearance.
