MAREEBA Rodeo has firmly established itself as the premier lead-up event to the biggest rodeo in the southern hemisphere – the Mount Isa Rodeo.
Cowboys and cowgirls came from across Australia to hone their rodeo skills, and hopefully take home some of the $50,000 on offer and add points to their Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association ranking.
The North Queensland Register was there and captured some of the fantastic rodeo action enjoyed by 15,000 rodeo enthusiasts.
In the major events, Dyllan Stagg took out the novice saddle
ride and Robert Bandy the open saddle, while Adrien Shaban
won the novice bull ride and Kurt Shephard the open bull ride.
Scott Sheppard won the open steer wrestling and Deon Lane took home the open bareback buckle.

The junior champion cowgirl was a thrilling threeway tie with Katie Vohland, Shaye Land and Lacey Wilcox, while the junior champion cowboy was taken out by Levi Ward.
The 2015 champion cowgirl was Suzie Fearon and the champion cowboy was Lee Liavers.
