As they crossed the line in Race-3 at Bowen on Easter Saturday: 1st, Flight to Glory trained by Joanna Hassett and ridden by Darren Evans; 2nd Lucky Bobby, jockey Wayne Pomfrett; and 3rd, Blue Danube, jockey Frank Edwards.
THE 2015 racing season for the Bowen Turf Club kicked off with a well supported 5-race meeting at Ben Bolton Park on Easter Saturday.
Over 300 racing enthusiasts turned out for a great day of racing many from Mackay and the Burdekin. Young apprentice, Katarina Aho took the honours for the jockeys riding two winners in the 5-race card.
Katarina rode the Olivia Cairns trained, Spurs On to victory in the Koorelah Farms Maiden Plate and the Ray Tapiolas trained Starlistic in the JJ Richards and Sons Open Handicap.
Organisers were happy with the numbers particularly as many locals had left town for the Easter celebrations.
