HELPING raise funds and awareness of the Soldier On organisation is a key driver for a new signature outdoor event on the Atherton Tablelands. With its picturesque scenery and cooler temperatures than the coast, the Tablelands region is an ideal location to host an array of triathlon events.
Registrations are now open for the Yungaburra Triathlon which will draw participants and spectators to the heritage village over the weekend of November 21-22, 2014. An assortment of family friendly festivities will ensure a fun-filled weekend including five triathlon events to suit all ages and abilities.
Max Lewis, President of the Yungaburra Association Inc, a major sponsor of the event, is extremely excited about what the committee is organising.
"The weekend will kick off with a welcome dinner at Nick's Restaurant on Friday 20th of November, followed by the monthly Yungaburra Markets Saturday morning. At 2pm, the Olympic and Sprint Triathlon races will commence. These are National Paratriathlon and Triathlon Australia events.
"Saturday evening will see local band, Ruff Diamonds perform a free outdoor concert with headline guest act and recipient of an astounding 33 Golden Guitars, Lee Kernaghan performing five songs live," added Mr Lewis.
Sunday morning will involve an Enticer Triathlon event, Kids Aquathon and Corporate event. All races commence and end at the Afghanistan Avenue of Honour Memorial at the Tinaburra Foreshore with over $9000 in prize money up for grabs.
Tablelands Regional Council Mayor Rosa Lee Long fully supports the triathlon festival and encourages the community to get involved.
"Register now for an event. You can create a team with friends, family or work colleagues or participate as an individual competitor. Alternatively, plan to come along as a spectator and help raise funds for Soldier On," Cr Lee Long said.
