IT was the Burdekin’s turn to view the iconic Melbourne Cup on its tour around the country.
Over the past ten years it has traveled over 300,000 kilometres around Australia and on Saturday it was at the Burdekin race course at Home Hill Accompanied by 1999 Melbourne Cup winning jockey, John Marshall and the Victorian Racing Club’s Tour Ambassador Jo Hutson.
John won the Melbourne Cup on Rogan Josh and told the story that the owner, from Darwin, took three days to drive don’t to Melbourne for the race and three weeks to drive back due to continuous celebrations along the way.
At one stop a new born baby was christened with champagne from the cup and the child was named Rogan Josh.
A crowd of approximately 250 turned out for a great day of racing in beautiful spring weather.
In place of the usual Fashions on the field, race goers were treated to a fashion parade featuring the fashion designs available at Tasha’s Top Shop, Ayr.
Race goers were also entertained by a display of dancing by the colourful Karen Healy Dancers.
