MMG Century is joining forces with Indigenous owned contract partner Northern Project Contracting (NPC) to deliver the 2014 Living Leadership School Awards Program across the Lower Gulf.
Started by MMG Century in 2012, the program recognises young leaders from seven schools across the Lower Gulf; embracing their skills and enthusiasm and helping them to achieve their goals.
To ensure community initiatives started by MMG Century continue beyond the end of open pit production in mid-2015, the mine is partnering with other companies who have a presence in the Lower Gulf region to prolong the benefits of those projects. The Living Leadership Awards partnership between MMG Century and NPC is one example.
Participating schools include the Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Normanton, Karumba and Burketown State Schools as well as Normanton’s Gulf Christian College and the Mount Isa School of the Air.
School principals and teachers are asked to identify a student who exemplifies the qualities of a young leader. These qualities include, but are not limited to: honesty and integrity; fairness; leading by example; taking personal responsibility; helping others; strong team player and a positive and inclusive attitude
To reinforce the inclusive nature of the Living Leadership program, a student does not have to be a School Captain/Sports Captain or even a senior student to receive this Award. To ensure the flexibility of the Award, any student from any class can be nominated.
Students are presented with the award at their School Awards ceremonies at the end of the school year; joined by family, friends and the wider school community. Each of the students will receive a Dymocks Gift voucher to purchase books online, along with a framed Certificate and backpack from NPC and MMG.
