AFTER celebrating its 20th year of success, the world will have a chance to re-live the Dirt n Dust Triathlon in high definition.
While thousands of Queenslanders and visitors from abroad flocked to Julia Creek for the famous Outback triathlon, the Dirt n Dust PBR Bullride and Australia’s Best Butt Competition the cameras were rolling to capture an hour-long television special featuring three rambunctious Bondi Rescue celebrity guests.
There’s nothing that Andrew Reid, Adriel ‘Bacon’ Young, and Corey Oliver didn’t get stuck into on the weekend – an attitude that impressed the Dirt n Dust Committee and fixed the spotlight firmly on the North West last weekend.
After squelching through mud in the bog snorkelling challenge, riding a bull alongside PBR greats and catching cow patties to help festival goers win prizes they described the event as one of the greatest experiences they’ve had to date.
Dirt n Dust Committee President Stephen Malone said the whole region would benefit from the television special when it aired in 30 countries around the globe at a later date.
“We started videoing in Townsville, moved to Charters Towers, then Hughenden and Richmond and we’ll do Cloncurry, Cannington and Mount Isa so we’ve used the opportunity to promote the whole region,” he said.
“We understand the success of Dirt n Dust is helped by the support from all the towns along the Overlander’s way.”
Mr Malone said the team from RJM media captured the North West’s beauty in the highest quality high definition from above the crowds, below the water and everywhere in between.
Although crowd numbers were slightly down on last year’s event, founding members for Julia Creek who hatched the idea for Australia’s toughest sprint triathlon were back to see how far the event came in its 20 years.
“It was energising for the current committee to see those people come back,” Mr Malone said.
“They led the way and kicked it off. They did a good job and hopefully we’re doing them proud.”
