CLONCURRY Mayor Andrew Daniels paid a visit to the residents of the Aged Care Annex recently to listen to their tales of Cloncurry as part of the story-telling work of the Cloncurry and District Historical Society.
“Life has changed significantly out here over the past 50 years and unfortunately we have little record,” Mr Daniels said.
“We know families have got photos and yarns that have been passed down from generation to generation but Council, in conjunction with the Society is working to preserve these relics and stories in our Museums for everyone to enjoy," he said.
“It is not just about showing tourists the way things were back in the day, but also our children and our children’s children.
The Society has also been copying previously recorded stories from audio tapes to digital format. The original stories were collected by Shirley Powley, a former member of the Society in the 1990’s.
The Society hopes to have an audio-visual display for the 150th anniversary celebrations in 2017 for residents and tourists to reflect on early life in Cloncurry.
