CHARTERS Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1049 at the store and prime sale held on July 29.
The yarding included 342 prime cattle and 707 store cattle.
The Prime cattle consisted of 44 bullocks, 29 heifers, 262 cows and seven bulls.
Prime cattle were comprised of very mixed lines of quality with higher amounts of plainer types yarded than at the previous sale.
The yarding was drawn from Ingham, Mt Fox, Trebonne, Ayr, Cromarty, Giru, Alligator Creek, Einasleigh, Forsayth, Georgetown, Mt Surprise, Richmond, Stamford, Hughenden and local areas.
Bullocks and heifers were unchanged in price from the previous sale, and cows were up 2c/kg.
Heifers to 440kg topped at 193c to average 162c, while a lone heifer over 440kg made 206c.
Cows to 400kg reached 198c to average 156c, while those over 400kg peaked at 237c to average 185c.
Steers and bullocks to 500kg hit 221c to average 197c, while those over 500kg made 246c to average 220c. Bulls over 450kg reached 192c to average 181c.
DJ & EA Scott, Trebonne, sold bullocks for 246c weighing 620kg to return $1526/head, while the top priced trade heifers were sold by WJ Rhodes, Sandhill Station, Richmond, making 206c to weigh 480kg and return $989.
A Grey Brahman cow sold by Norcal Partnership, Virginia Park, Mingela, made 237c and weighed 620kg to return $1470, and bulls sold by Cormundi Cattle Co, Brumby Ridge, Charters Towers, topped at 192c and weighed 680kg to return $1306.
Store Cattle yarded included 327 steers, 367 heifers and 13 cows and calves.
There were good quality lines of store cattle yarded with Brahman weaner steers and Brangus weaner steers selling to 240c and no-3 and no-4 mixed coloured Brahman heifers selling to 207c. Competition was firm and consistent on all the store cattle especially full pens of quality heifers.
Steers to 200kg topped at 237c to average 229c, 200-320kg steers reached 240c to average 200c, steers 320-400kg made 196c to average 175c and those over 400kg hit 189c to average 188c.
Heifers to 200kg peaked at 199c to average 189c, 200-320kg heifers made 205c to average 186c, 320-370kg heifers reached 207c to average 200c, and two heifers over 370kg averaged 207c.
A pen of 13 Brangus and Brahman-cross steers sold by Dixon Grazing, Bagstowe Station, Einasleigh, made 240c and weighed 249kg to return $598, and a Brahman heifer sold by Greg and Margaret Franz, Charters Towers, made 207c, weighed 370kg and returned $766.
Cows and calves sold by CT & JL Poole, Glendower, Richmond, returned $760/unit.
