CHARTERS Towers combined agents yarded a total of 800 cattle at the prime and store sale held on October 29. The yarding was comprised of 73 prime cattle and 727 store cattle.
Prime cattle yarded included nine bullocks, three heifers, 42 cows and 19 bulls.
Prime cattle were in small supply and of mixed quality. The cattle presented sold to fair rates on the day for the numbers and types on offer.
Cattle were drawn from Burketown, Hughenden, Ingham, and local areas.
Cows to 400kg topped at 105c/kg to average 96c, while those over 400kg reached 128c to average 125c.
Steers and bullocks to 500kg hit 111c to average 105c, while those over 500kg peaked at 142c to average 119c.
Bulls over 450kg made 122c to average 115c. No heavy heifers yarded.
Store cattle yarded consisted of 484 steers and mickeys, 241 heifers and one cow and calf.
Store cattle comprised of one major line of northern, pastoral cattle – along with several small local consignments of mixed quality. The majority of cattle presented for sale were showing the effects of the season.
Steers to 200kg reached 140c to average 77c, 200-320kg steers made 169c to average 156c, and those over 450kg topped at 163c to average 109c.
Heifers to 200kg hit 113c to average 80c, 200-320kg heifers peaked at 120c to average 85c and 320-370kg heifers made 116c to average 114c. No heifers over 370kg yarded.
A pen of nine good quality steers sold by Janet Walters made 169c weighed 265kg and returned $449/head, and a good pen of seven heifers sold by PT and KL Wells, made 116c weighed 355kg and returned a good average of $413.
A line of 400 steers sold by Zlotkowski Cattle Co, Wentworth, Burketown, topped at 163c and $450 with the consignment averaging $225. They also sold a line of 208 heifers which topped at 113c and averaged 80c.
