CLIMBING trees as a young lad in Murgon, southern Queensland, Gavin Cooper always had an affinity with Spider-Man. But two decades on and the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys backrower has well and truly switched super hero allegiances to Thor, and he will be proudly wearing the God of Thunder’s colours at 1300SMILES Stadium during tonight’s match.
Round 21 in the National Rugby League in ISC Marvel Super Heroes round and the Cowboys will be wearing specially created Thor-themed jerseys for their clash with the Raiders, who will be channelling The Hulk with their playing strip.
Cooper said the players loved the concept, and after embracing it last year for a match against the Titans, the team was chomping at the bit to let Thor strut his powerful stuff against the Raiders.
“I mean, what’s better than being a God of Thunder?” Cooper said.
“Kids love the idea of super heroes, and the fact that we get to run around as Thor is a fantastic initiative and something our supporters and members can really tap into and share with us,” he said.
“Pitting Thor against the Hulk will be a tough battle but our boys are ready for the challenge.”
This is the second year of this initiative and fans at the match are encouraged to dress up as their favourite super hero and take advantage of the many themed activities being held in conjunction with the match.
