North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) medical imaging services have been transferred to a new private provider.
North West HHS Chief Executive Sue Belsham said the current contract for the delivery of radiology services across the North West had expired and had been put out to tender.
“We are committed to providing the best possible health care service for the North West in the most cost-effective way possible, so it’s important that we get the best value for money in our contracted services, such as radiology,” Mrs Belsham said.
“I can confirm that I-MED Radiology Network was the successful tenderer and started delivering the service from 7 July, with a contract period of five years.’’
Mrs Belsham said I-MED Radiology Network was Australia’s largest medical imaging clinic network and offered all scans and radiology services.
Across Australia, the I-MED Radiology Network operates 200 clinics covering all major metropolitan areas and significant parts of rural and regional Australia, including 19 clinics in Queensland.
“I-MED and North West HHS staff have worked extremely hard to minimise disruption to patients requiring X-rays, ultrasounds and scans while radiology services were transferred to the new provider.” Mrs Belsham said.
“I-MED Radiology has advised that all current radiology services will be available in the usual way and they expect all current staff to continue to work with them.
“We look forward to developing a great relationship with the new provider, hopefully as enduring and rewarding as we established with the team of North West Queensland Radiology and their principal Dr Bob Morgan, who recently retired.’’
