QUEENSLAND Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk was in Charters Towers earlier today chatting with locals and visiting local businesses as part of a doorstop tour that will take her throughout the state.
Addressing local volunteers and community groups at a luncheon held at the Stock Exchange Arcade, Ms Palaszczuk said she is keenly aware of the issues impacting residents of the region, chief among them being the ongoing impact of the drought on commerce and the emotional toll it’s taking on those that call the Gold City home.
“My aim is take all the issues we discuss back to my colleagues so that as a government we can address your concerns,” she said.
“We are listening to you, but solving some of these problems will take time, so we ask for your continued patience, while we find solutions.”
After the luncheon the premier was given a guided tour of the city by Member for Dalrymple Shane Knuth, including the site of the proposed motorsport precinct.
The visit to Charters Towers was the first by a Queensland premier since Peter Beattie toured the city in 2003.
On Thursday Premier Palaszczuk will join leaders of Australian politics, business, science and academia at James Cook University for the first of a series of forums, "Redefining Townsville" which aims at unlocking the future potential of the city.
