TWO men have survived a helicopter crash in Far North Queensland on the weekend.
Police say the men were found alive and uninjured on Sunday afternoon after failing to reach Mareeba, west of Cairns, on Saturday.
The 39-year-old pilot and 33-year-old passenger took off from Cape York's Archer River Roadhouse, after lunch on Saturday. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) launched a search for the men after the Robinson R-44 helicopter failed to land at the Mareeba airport, west of Cairns, on Saturday night.
The AMSA combed a 765-square kilometre area between the Archer River in Cape York and Mareeba, and the men were located by a passing plane about 60km south-east of the road house.
A spokesman from the Archer River Roadhouse said the men had been fishing in the area and had lunch there before their ill-fated flight.
Remarkably the men were not injured, police said.
