FOUR organisations across FNQ are bringing together some of Australia's leading carbon farming specialists at this year's Rotary FNQ Field Days at Mareeba.
Northern Gulf Resource Management Group, Southern Gulf Catchments, Cook Shire Council and Terrain NRM are providing visitors to the field day with a jam-packed schedule of presentations and workshops, as well as technical natural resource management information and extension services.
The groups have coordinated two full days of guest speakers which include Dr Christine Jones, an internationally renowned soil ecologist, Ben Keogh, managing director at Australian Carbon Traders, and Alan Lauder, author of the book Carbon Grazing - The Missing Link.
Carole Sweatman, CEO of Terrain NRM, said the program of speakers will provide a wide range of information on carbon farming and soil carbon more generally.
"The Australian Government's Carbon Farming Initiative has supported us to bring most of these speakers to North Queensland," Carole said.
"And with the field days attracting thousands of people over its two days, we're expecting to help hundreds of land managers with all sorts of queries - whether carbon related or not.
"We'll have staff on hand dealing with topics as diverse as Landcare, property planning, feral plants and animals, soils and sustainable agriculture," she said.
"We'd encourage people to stop in and say g'day. We'll have technical staff from across North Queensland, the Gulf and the Cape in attendance.
"The carbon farming and natural resource management tent will be at the Rotary FNQ Field Days sites 6A and 7A, and inquiries can be directed to Melanie Brennan on 0421 252 153.
