BOULIA Mayor Rick Britton said he would be praying for rain in 2013 but not so much as to delay projects.
"We'll be praying really hard for rain for the graziers, so far we've had no big storms," he said.
"We'd really like to get all the road work done and open up access to the racecourse for a cattle spelling facility we were approved for last year but we don't have any big golden milestones." Cr Britton said after a tough year in 2012, the council would need to keep in close contact with higher powers to achieve their goals.
"We will need good communication with State Government, we've had a few financial hardships in the past year so we will also need to be aware of what the budget's doing," he said.
Carpentaria Shire Council Mayor Fred Pascoe said his team had just completed a huge milestone with their road network, something he named as a particularly proud achievement.
"I'm really happy with the work the guys did on the road networks, it was a very late wet last year and we couldn't get on to some of the areas until June or July so all things considered it went well," he said.
Cr Pascoe said the Carpentaria team would be working to get started on a water storage system project for which government funding was approved late last year.
The project would allow for a 2.5 mega litre water storage tank to be installed by March.
Cr Pascoe said another top priority for his region was to come to a conclusion on John Bovine's Disease which affected a large number of graziers in the shire.
Commercial fishermen in the region are hoping for a better sale price this year and Cr Pascoe will work toward communication with Canberra.
"In the smaller places we're looking at the political environment in Canberra," he said.
"We're all looking for certainty in government and that comes down to elections to give us confidence in the regions."
Cloncurry will travel along steadily in 2013 according to Mayor Andrew Daniels (pictured).
He said the opening of the community precinct and information centre in 2012 was a highlight for the community, and this year the council would look toward new projects.
"If we can complete the bypass, the weir and the equine centre we'll be happy," he said.
"We've got a good bunch of councillors, two new and two old, which have all been moulded well and have a good input.
"It's really important to me when making decisions that everyone has a say."
Cr Daniels said the region was in a good place financially coming in to a new year so if any critical projects were to come up there would be money in the bank. "We've got a lot of aspiration in this region with MMG and CuDeco given the go ahead everything's looking pretty good for the year," he said. "I've said all along the North West Mineral Province is like back in the days when Australia would ride on the back of sheep but now it's Queensland riding on the back of the province.
"Unless the government begins to understand where the money is coming from we won't get much done."
