COMPETING in a sport you love feels even more worthwhile when it’s in support of charity which is what the Rupertswood & District Horse Club Inc Annual Barrel Race Spectacular is all about.
The Spectacular which will be held this Saturday, August 1 from 1pm will feature a great day of barrel racing action while also raising vital funds for cancer research.
Club Treasurer Sharon Yardley said several members have battled cancer over the years, which is why the club has such a deeply vested interest in cancer research.
“The charity event originated after long-time member Karen McCormack passed away from breast cancer a few years ago, this year we’re throwing our support behind the Garvan Institute of Medical Research,” she said.
“All money raised from the raffles held on the day plus a portion of the nomination fees will be going to the Garvan Institute.”
The Garvan Institute is a world leader in biomedical research, pioneering study into some of the most widespread diseases affecting our community today including cancer research.
For over 45 years, significant breakthroughs have been achieved by Garvan scientists in the understanding and treatment of diseases with one of the main priorities being cancer.
“Highlights of the event will include the Open Barrel Race for ages 18 and over which has a prize pool of $2000 (with $1000 guaranteed for the winner), and the 3D Open Barrel Race featuring a total of $1500 prize money ($500 for each division).
“This years’ event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors Feed 2 Go, Caltex Yabulu, Round Mountain Horse Adjistment, Lenton’s Transport, Ronelle Lahey Benefit, Daisis Deeragun Early Learning Centre, Vision Constructions, C&S Yardley Investments, Ray White Bushland Beach, Hawkins Drilling and Binsted’s Rural Transport.”
Food and drinks, free camping, toilets and hot showers are available on-site for those that wish to camp-out after the events wind-down late in the evening.
Nominations can be placed on the day from 10am all the way up until 12pm.
Mark your calendar and come and throw your support behind the Rupertswood & District Horse Horse Club Inc, and this great cause.
