FIFTEEN-year-old Rikki Payne is a rising star in the dairy world.
Having had attended the Malanda Educational Dairy Camp for the very first time and not having even come off a property herself, she walked away with the ‘Senior Student of the Dairy Camp’ Award as well as the ‘Rabobank Senior Section Champion Leader’ Award.
Rikki also enjoyed success in the parading section and came first in the ‘Senior division for Parading’.
The recent Educational Dairy Camp was conducted to teach participants valuable skills about the preparation and presentation of dairy cattle for the show ring and covered areas such as parading, clipping and judging.
Rikki said that the skill that she learnt the most about during the dairy camp was clipping.
“I knew nothing about it before I went to the dairy camp,” Rikki said.
However this certainly did not prove to be a disadvantage to her and she quickly mastered this skill to also take out the ‘Encouragement Award’ in the Senior division for Clipping.
‘The reason that I wanted to go to the dairy camp was to gain experience and have fun. Some of my friends had attended the previous one and had mentioned to me how much fun it was,” Rikki said.
When asked if she would be attending future dairy camps Rikki enthusiastically endorsed the one that she had just attended.
“Of course, it was a lot of fun,” she said and mentioned that she was already looking forward to the next one.
Rikki would like to thank all of the judges, special guest speakers, helpers, everyone on the canteen and anyone else who had any involvement in running the camp to make it the huge success that it was.
