JOHN and Roz Mercer are leading up to their 11th annual on property sale to be held on July 26 in the Mary Valley, via Gympie.
This year the stud will offer 86 quality Charolais and Charbray bulls, consisting of 45 Charolais, including 17 polled/ scurred, five Full French and five red factor. The 41 Charbray bulls include four polled / scurred. 27 of the Charbray bulls are generation bred for clients looking for a more consistent of progeny from a Charbray sire.
Having suffered a very trying season, like most this last summer, these young bulls have come through exceptionally well with no supplements prior to their final sale preparation.
The bulls will have had 85 days on a specially designed low grain Riverina pellet by sale day and at this stage are showing plenty of muscling and good weight for age.
John said being bred in the ticks on coastal country and surviving this season’s harsh conditions means these bulls will stand up anywhere and should not only survive but thrive in most country.
This year’s Charbray bulls are definitely an impressive line-up, Mr Mercer said. Recent pre-sale inspections have received very favourable comments, such as “This is a great line up of bulls, you should be very proud” and “The correctness of these bulls is outstanding, there’s no bad sheaths and feet and legs are excellent”, “There’s great muscling and hindquarters on these bulls”, “Every time we turn around we pick out another one”.
John said their Charolais bulls are typical of what they produce every year, well-muscled, medium framed, French/Australian types.
“We put a big emphasis on strong headed masculine bulls and we are always looking for a little extra softness in our stud sires,” he said.
“There are 17 polls in our sale team this year and they give nothing away to their horned brothers.”
Both breeds are again being offered with EBV growth figures, and fat and eye muscle scans will be available prior to sale day.
John said he’s very happy with the EBV figures of the bulls with some bulls well up in the top 1 – 10 per cent of the breed for weight for age. Some stud sires represented in the sale have had a big impact on weight for age with Sedalia Beaumont, ANC Brussells, and Shiiloh C-Silver being trait leaders for 200, 400 and 600 day weight EBV’s. With most stud sires used also being in the top 10pc for Eye muscle area. These traits are very much reflected in their strong muscled sons offered on July 26.
This year’s sale theme is “26 Years – As Reliable as our Bulls”, the Mercer family would just like to say that after 26 years of stud breeding they plan to be around for many more and as always fully guarantee their bulls as sound and fertile.
Clients of the Kandanga Valley Stud have had a great year during a very trying season. Some achievements attained have been – Grand Champion Hoof & Hook, Schools competition at Brisbane EKKA 2013, Supreme Champion bullock at Kilcoy Show, top price steers at Roma store sale – selling for $2.23/kg, Champion pen of Steers at Toogoolawah weaner show and sale – selling for $725/hd, Champion pen of Steers at Biggenden Weaner sale, and Champion pen of Heifers at Woolooga Weaner sale.
All bulls are vaccinated for 7-in-1, 3-day sickness, 3-germ blood and semen tested 10 days prior to sale. As a special offer this year, Kandanga Valley will transport bulls north to Mackay, via the Bruce Highway and west to Dalby via the Murgon clearing dip, at no cost.
