SOME of the most well-regarded Brahman breeders in the state will converge on the Dalrymple Saleyards in Charters Towers on Friday October 17 for the 15th anniversary of the Gold City Brahman Sale.
Bidding will commence at 9am on the 135 carefully selected Red and Grey bulls going under the hammer at the sale which has a proven reputation for offering quality and accessibility for all buyers since the sale was established in 2000.
The Registered sires and herd bulls on offer consist of 79 Grey’s that will go through the sale ring first in Lots 1-79, followed by a 56 Red’s that will make-up Lots 80-135. The 2014 event will continue that tradition with both herd bulls and registered sires on offer.
Vendors from 20 leading Brahman studs from throughout Queensland will be showcasing their best bulls available at the sale.
Australian Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) General Manager John Croaker said several of the vendors who will be selling on the day have been staunch supporters of the sale for many years.
“It’s been pleasing to see vendors such as John and Betty Atkinson, Lee and Gillian Collins, Brian and Glenda Kirkwood, Rodger and Lorena Jefferis, Peter and Sue Hammer and Peter and Sue Gray, Allan and Penny Wallace and Lance and Karen Pope among others showcase their best bulls year after year,” Mr Croaker said.
“Even though the vendors recognise that the current seasonal conditions have been difficult, they are keeping the faith with their client’s by presenting the best bulls they have available at the sale,” he said.
“The fact that these long-time vendors have supported the sale through thick and thin augers well for the success of Gold City for many years to come.”
He said the organising committee and the vendors have been working to consistently lift the quality of the bulls catalogued.
“All bulls catalogued have been inspected by Ken Roche to ensure they are up to the quality standard required, and they have all passed a Cattle Vets Bull Breeding Soundness evaluation to be eligible for sale.
“The Committee conducted market research among past buyers which revealed a high level of satisfaction with the Gold City Sale and the quality of the bulls the vendors present.
“The Committee found these comments encouraging and strengthened their commitment to continue to lift the quality of the bulls offered.”
To help alleviate transport costs, buyers of five or more bulls are entitled to freight rebates, ranging from $55 per head for travel over 300km, through to $82.50/hd for travel to the Northern Territory.
Bulls have been evaluated for breeding soundness and semen, as well as being pre-sale inspected and pre-treated for tick clearance.
Sale bulls will be available for inspection from 3.30pm on Thursday October 16 right up until Friday morning before the sale commences. The vendors and sale organisers have all also extended an invitation for prospective buyers to join them for drinks at the Dalrymple Saleyards on Thursday from 5.30pm for drinks and nibbles at the Saleyards.
The sale is sponsored by Bayer, while Elders and Landmark will conduct the auction.
The sale catalogue is available to be viewed online.
