TABLELANDS resident Keith Gould will be awarded Barron Catchment Care’s prestigious ‘Helen Adams Memorial Award’ on March 18.
Named in memory of environmental champion, Helen Adams, this award recognizes activities that have been instrumental in improving the health of the Barron River Catchment.
Chair of Barron Catchment Care, Mr Brian Down, said for many years Mr Gould has taken a leading role in the adoption of sound land and water management practices on his property on the Atherton Tablelands.
“These have included the construction of detention basins on his farm for slowing water flow and riparian tree planting for creek bank stabilisation,” Mr Down said.
These practices have effectively eliminated erosion and guaranteed maximum soil stability on his farm and have contributed to reducing the nutrient and sediment load of the Barron River,” he said.
“Keith has also played a key role in promoting sustainable land management practices. He has made his experience and expertise freely available to other farmers and has hosted group visits to demonstrate his effective land management practices at work.
“As a long-term advocate of responsible land management and in appreciation of his outstanding efforts towards improving the health of the Barron River, Barron Catchment Care is proud to confer the Award to Keith Gould”.
“In its 20th year, Barron Catchment Care is committed to promoting healthy catchment land and waterways by helping farmers adopt sustainable land management practices”.
